  • Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Those of us who manage the public dollars will be held to account to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and our government.

Random Cogitations 03/08/09

  • Who is John Galt?
  • With the Legislative and Executive branches waging an all-out war against the middle and upper classes, there are more and more Democrats beginning to wake up to the fact that all that’s being done/proposed will affect THEM. Michelle Malkin has an interesting video of Whoopi Goldberg lamenting on The View about all of the taxes that are being piled on.  Do I detect a ray of HOPE that all of this CHANGE will turn unpopular with Libs?
  • For those who dismiss the idea of the Main Stream Media being in cahoots with the Democrats, chew on this: B. Hussein’s pick for UN Ambassador, Susan Rice, is the husband of Ian Cameron. And who is Ian Cameron? Why none other than Executive Producer of ABC’ s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”. I wonder if Ian and Susan join in on The Ballerina’s morning Talking Points conference call from the White House?
  • Poor Joe Biden. Just when he finishes up from the last time he was grounded by B. Hussein, he goes out and opens up his mouth again.  In a speech to the AFL-CIO at their convention in Miami, he said this:  “And (sic) old joke…you go home with them that brung you to the dance,” the vice president said, according to remarks put out by the White House. “Well, you all brought me to the dance a long time ago. And it’s time we start dancing, man. It’s time we start dancing.”  Go to your room Joe, and don’t come out until Barry tells you that your punishment is once again over…
  • Talk about having no class. While Barry  and Michelle are living it up on Wednesday nights at the White House, they certainly didn’t put too much thought into a gift for Gordon Brown. You can dress ’em up, but you can’t take ’em out…
  • For those who voted for Obama: how’s your 401k doing these days?

We Need Substance, Not Symbolism

Less than 100 hundred hours until The Immaculate Inauguration, and we are now being bombarded with the latest spin/talking points: Barack Hussein Obama’s hero is Abraham Lincoln.

I can certainly see the symbolism; after all, BHO will soon be American’s first bi-racial president, and Lincoln was instrumental in freeing the slaves. But symbolism is no substitute for substance, and all of this Obamagasm doesn’t really matter. What DOES matter is how BHO will govern over the next 4 years. Right now, there are many more questions than answers.

Will BHO fix America’s problems, or create more? Will his primary focus be on the United States, or will he be more worried about how the US is PERCEIVED by the rest of the world?

Will this sudden fixation with Lincoln lead to a fundraising opportunity via the Lincoln Bedroom? If so, will we see a guest list?

How many campaign promises will not see the light of day? (for those of the Obama voters suckered in by the promises of tax cuts, it’s been shelved)

How long before BHO is tested with a crisis?  Along those same lines, how soon before poor Joe Biden needs to be muzzled AGAIN?

Surely, BHO has a daunting road ahead, and eating like Abe Lincoln on Inauguration Day means absolutely zilch in the grand scheme of things.

I only hope that the next 4 years is not  Welcome Back, Carter.

Pennsylvania Is Still In Play

Don’t tell the Obamabots, but Pennsylvania is still very much up for grabs on November 4th. If you look hard enough, the evidence is there.

Let’s first look at the map of Pennsylvania and how each county voted in the 2004 Presidential Election. You’ll see that there are 4 distinct areas that voted Democrat in each corner of the state. Aside from Philth-adelphia, which has a track record for voter fraud, the other areas are not neccessarily guaranteed to remain “blue”.

There may be a big backlash in the Southeast “racist” and “redneck” region of PA after John Murtha just couldn’t keep his mouth shut. This very well may carry over to the Presidential votes, and hurt Obama.

In Northeast PA, also a traditionally blue-collar, heavily Catholic, and Democrat area, there are a lot of unhappy campers amongst Democrats, so Biden may not be able to count on “hometown” votes.  After all, he did say “no coal plants here in America“,  as well as  his blatant lie that he is a “hard coal miner“.   Being that this area has major reserves of Anthracite coal still waiting to be mined, thus leading to a potential economic boom, voters may not take kindly to these Biden gaffes.

I haven’t really seen much information on the Erie area, so I can’t comment on that area.

Other signs that indicate a closer race in Pennsylvania than the pollsters would like us to think: a reported internal Obama poll at the beginning of the month, which showed him just 2 points above McCain; the constant bombardment of ads by the Obama campaign; BHO wearing blue jeans to a rally in Philth-adelphia this week (presumably to make him look more common); bringing Bill Clinton in at the 11th hour to campaign in PA; Fast Eddie Rendell touring the state by bus this week to campaign for BHO; “surrogates” for McCain providing interviews daily in the Wilkes-Barre media market (Fred Thompson and Rudy Guiliani just in the past 24 hours alone); and the McCain campaign pounding PA hard with stops around the state. I also think that the Dems have a false sense of security with all of the new voter registrations, with most being done by ACORN.  The vast majority of the registrations are of young people, a voting block that historically is less likely to vote. So, that actually could be a disadvantage to Obama, since most new registrations are Democrats.

So if you’re a bitter clinger PA voter, hang in there. It’s not as bad as the media and public pollsters would have us believe, and a McCain upset may very well occur.
