  • Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Electronic Spying in Ohio

Most everyone is already tired of hearing about “Joe The Plumber”; I know that I am.  Sure, the McCain campaign is extending his 15 minutes of fame by having him campaign (and why shouldn’t they);  after all, he did get BHO to reveal his intentions of wealth redistribution.  But the media has gone above and behind in doing their thorough rectal exam on Joe,  possibly with a little help from liberal friends with access to private information.

Initial reports were that 3 agencies in Ohio had pulled reports from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Database after the last Presidential debate.

It has now come to light that the search of his records was more widespread than first realized.  Not only was he checked via the Bureau of Motor Vehicles database, but he was also checked to see if he owed unemployment compensation taxes or was receiving welfare.

Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, offered this excuse for the records check:

“Given our understanding that Mr. Wurzelbacher had publicly indicated that he had the means to purchase a substantial business enterprise, ODJFS, consistent with past departmental practice, checked confidential databases ,” she wrote.

“Not surprisingly, when a person behind in child support payments or receiving public assistance is receiving significant media attention which suggests that the person appears to have available financial resources, the Department risks justifiable criticism if it fails to take note and respond,”

So this has to be done at a state level? If he owed child support, wouldn’t the mother of the child go to either her case worker or the press to report this? I’m SURE that the media would pounce on such a story.

And of the employees who snooped, were they stupid, or just plain arrogant? I work for a large healthcare system that has an EMR (electronic medical record).  There is a record of every entry into the chart, including who accessed the record, the time, date, etc. My employer simply will not tolerate unauthorized access, and if someone is found to have viewed a chart that they had no reason to have done so, they are immediately fired. But then again, I don’t work for the government.

There have been no clear connections to the Obama campaign with these incidents; it could just be Liberal activists going overboard. Whatever the reason, it’s wrong and most likely illegal.

Just remember everyone: Big Brother is watching you.
